The strip of Parsons Avenue through Olde Towne East continues to grow. Etsy Team Columbus recently moved their studio space inside the CS Gallery, in the former Roscoe Room. Artist Suzanne Betz Gallagher had occupied the 300 square foot studio space with her Roscoe Room for about a year before she outgrew it and moved to the former Cleo?s Bridal & Formal space at the corner of Oak and Parsons.
Daniel Colvin was looking for a new person or group to occupy the space. He is a member of Etsy Team Columbus and suggested they move there. The group had been at 400 West Rich for about six months, and while it was a wonderful experience, they needed something that better fit their budget.
?Olde Towne East is one of Columbus? oldest neighborhoods but has been growing and evolving rapidly of late,? says Etsy Team Columbus member and Team Captain Karla Ross. ?Its diversity, central location, and affordability makes it an ideal hotbed for independent arts and businesses.? She and the group look forward to joining the community there.
Etsy Team Columbus became a group in the Spring of 2008. Etsy.com encourages its sellers with similar interests or geographic locations to form supportive communities called ?Street Teams.? To date, the most instrumental leaders of Etsy Team Columbus (Past and present) have been Kellie Gedert, Heather Wirth, Jan Dennison, Amy Ressa & Jamie Hevener, and Karla Ross. They started off with 20 members and now have over 100 members.
?We are extremely inclusive of all talents,? says Ross. ?If you are a beginner? join us, a seasoned pro? join us. Take what you want from your association with us: friendship, networking, business tips, peer feedback, insight, shared information, or resources.?
Etsy Team Columbus has also been awarded financial grants from Etsy.com on three occasion over the past four years. Their annual events, the holiday trunk show and the Eco Chic Craftacular have continued to grow. This past May?s Craftacular was extremely successful.

?We raised more money than ever and thus were able to donate more than ever to our four charities ? The Whetstone Community Center, two local animal shelters, and the Hilliard Arts Fest,? says Ross. ?Giving back to our community is a long-standing goal of our group and the Craftacular event. We were very happy to have raised so much. Past recipients of cash donations have included The Columbus Artmobile, Local Matters, and a handful of others.?
All members have been offered space in the studio to place a sampling for their work, available for purchase. The room will be set up as a permanent shop where visitors can find member?s works in person. There will also be information on hand describing members and their craft in detail for visitors to take with them. In addition to the ETC Studio at CS Gallery, you can find many members? crafts in locations all over Columbus.
The group will host informal gatherings twice a month for members to work on their individual projects and socialize. Guest speakers will be brought in to discuss topics relevant to the business of the arts and crafts.
Etsy Team Columbus members will continue to participate in front of house openings and events as they wish. Currently, ?The ETC Studio at CS Gallery? is open Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 8pm. Saturday and Monday hours by appointment. The group hopes to offer regular Saturday hours soon. You will also be able to visit the studio during the monthly Hit & Run events July through November.
